Assignment 5 - Light and Shadows

Using Light and Shadows

For this assignment concentrate on photographing Light and Shadows. The intensity and quality of light is always changing and reacting differently with different subjects. The absence of light, shadows, can change the mood and emotion of an image. Over cast days are not the ideal lighting condition for this assignment.

Assignment No. 4 - Getting Up Close

Your next assignment is "Getting Up Close". Basically I want to you photograph your subjects as close as you can. So if you were photographing a flower, you'd zoom in on it and move as close to it as you can while still being able to focus on it.

Close up photography is called "Macro" photography. Special lenses and filters are made to enable you to get even closer to your subject. You are not required to use these for this assignment.

The closer you are to your subject the more shallow your depth of field will become. Also the longer the focal length of your lens, the more shallow your depth of field will be.

Pick any subject matter to photograph. You should make at least 50 exposures. During the lab day, you will edit your collection to your 10 best, export them from Lightroom and post them on your blog.

All images should be color corrected, white balanced, cropped (if desired), and adjusted correctly in Adobe Lightroom.

You will be graded on:

  • Turned in on time
  • Resized correctly
  • Color Corrected
  • My Subjective assessment

Lab Day: Thurs Sept 20

Due Date: Tues Sept 25

Adding the 'ALT' and 'TITLE' tag to blog posts

By default blogger does not ask for a title of an uploaded image or alt text. You can still put them in to increase the visibility of your images. When google indexes your website or blog and come across an image, the only way to know what the image is by the title or alt tag.
  1. Create a new blog post
  2. Insert an image by clicking on the image icon
  3. After the image up loads, if you haven't already, click on the HTML button to view the code in your post:
  4. The next step is to locate the image in the code so you can add the 'ALT' and 'TITLE' tags:
    (example)
    <img src="myPhoto.jpg" border="0" width="50" height="100" />
  5. Now before the closing IMG tag /> you need to add:
    alt="this is my alt text" title="this is my title text"
  6. so it should look like this:
    <img src="myPhoto.jpg" border="0" width="50" height="100" alt="this is my alt text" title="this is my title text" />

Assignment No. 2

Using your digital camera, take at least 20 photographs, bring the digital files in to class Tuesday. As far as subject matter... it's up to you.

We will start playing in Lightroom and we need images to work with, so bring them in on a jump-drive or other portable media device. I'm not sure if we have a card reader here at the school, so plan accordingly.
